September 22, 2014. My first official day of full-time work. Hired by the Main Street America Group, an insurance company headquartered in Jacksonville, FL. My position? Mail Services Coordinator. I’m excited to see where this career leads me. I believe the company has a communications department, which leaves me hopeful that I may be able to nab a position in. But for now, it’s time to open and sort mail!
It has been a little over a month since I graduated from the University of North Florida and I have already had a handful of interviews with various companies in Jacksonville. So far, none have been the right fit just yet.
I am eager to start my life with a new and exciting career. I have been hunting for copy writing, graphic design, or marketing careers. Unfortunately, I do not possess much experience in any of those fields so I am limited to entry-level work.
However, I have been staying positive and keeping myself motivated in the job hunt. I am excited to start a new path in my life and look forward to the opportunities and obstacles up ahead!
Today marks that day that I completed my internship at DiscoverTec. It has been a great semester interning there and learning so many new skills.
When I first started interning back in August, my knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and backlinking were at the absolute minimum. I could not even begin to explain what backlinking was or how SEO worked. However, now I could explain in much more detail how the process works. I am extremely happy to have learned the process and understand how websites get ranked on Google. I have also learned how to work with Google Analytics, a tool maintained by Google to measure the statistics and traffic of a given website.
The overall experience at DiscoverTec has been enjoyable and educational at the same time. The team at DiscoverTec is composed of several
That’s what I want to do.
Ever since the last few years of high school, design has been the number one thing I want to do. I want to design logos, posters, brochures, ads, billboards, etc. I crave the creativity. And that’s exactly what I want to do for my career.
There’s two things that come to mind when I think of a job where one sits behind a computer: a boring computer job, and a fun creative design job. I want the fun job. I want to come to work excited for the next thing I get to design. The next logo, the next graphic, matching what image with what font. That’s what I consider fun. I’m someone who likes to see before-and-afters. The product before: a fresh white page; the product after: a colorful, creative, interesting and fun piece of art.
I realize that in order for such a job to present itself in front of me I might have to endure some less-exciting jobs. Which is totally fine with me, but I hope in long-run I’ll find a job that really interests me.
The 2013 fall semester has been quite busy. I have taken an internship at a Jacksonville-based company, DiscoverTec, who specializes in Search Engine Optimization (SEO), internet marketing and creating websites for clients.
My role at this company has been to create quality back-links for multiple clients and record these links via Excel spreadsheets. In addition, I’ve also had the opportunity to use Moz, a web service that allows a Search Engine Optimizer to track specific websites ranking, keyword searches and various other components that create ranking spots on websites such as Google and Bing.
Overall, it has been an interesting experience so far. I am happy that I was able to seize the opportunity to see what SEO is really about and what Google ranking is. I’ve learned a lot since I first started interning in August. I look forward to the remainder of the semester and to learn more about SEO.
